OK, you've made the decision to sell your boat and have chosen Larsen Marine Yacht Sales to market it. All of the paperwork has been completed and the listing is being processed. Now, you might ask...how can I improve the chances of selling my boat for the best possible price in the shortest period of time?
The answer is "PREPARATION"
Assuming that your boat is fairly priced in the market and is easy to access, customers will want to look over, under and through the vessel. This becomes the CRITICAL MOMENT - THE ONLY CHANCE FOR YOUR VESSEL TO MAKE THAT EXTREMELY IMPORTANT FIRST IMPRESSION! If your boat isn't ready, chances are your potential buyer is not going to give it serious consideration among all the choices available to them.
Remember, your boat must catch the buyer's attention in the first sixty seconds-so be sure the entire boat looks and smells clean and fresh. A prospective buyer's first impression will be a major factor, so let's make that impression a good one. Plan on spending the necessary hours/days getting your boat ready for sale - this can often make the difference between a quick sale at the best price or the boat sitting on the market for months, finally selling out of desperation at a drastically reduced price.
How do your get your boat ready to make the best possible FIRST IMPRESSION? First, all unnecessary gear and clutter should be removed from the boat, or at the very least, it should be stowed out of the way. Nothing should be left aboard that isn't being included with the boat sale.
Our Brokers are very willing to offer you suggestions and 'how-to' tips on making your boat look good to prospective buyers.
The boat must now be completely cleaned and organized. Not just the "clean as you look below", but clean EVERYWHERE - head, ice box, stove, lockers, bilge, engine area and the engine itself, shelves, drawers, ports, hatches, even under cushions! Use a vacuum, then scrub and shine it. Next clean and oil the teak so it looks new, then start on the deck and topsides - wax the smooth areas, clean and oil exterior teak, varnish the trim if needed, make sure all deck and seat lockers are clean, organized and free of clutter. Scrub the water line and clean...or better yet repaint the bottom. When you have completed your preparation, let your listing broker know the boat is ready for showing. We then will do our part to expose your boat to as many qualified buyers as possible!
