Strictly Sail 2012: Enthusiasm Reigns

From the opening day to the final day, the Strictly Sail Show in Chicago was remarkable.  Daily lines formed waiting for the exhibit hall to open, evidence of a high level of enthusiasm for the sailing experience and the coming season.  Show Management reported increases in attendance approaching 20% over last year.  The Jeanneau/Larsen Marine exhibit was packed from start to finish.

Cruising World’s “Boat of the Year for 2012,” the Sun Odyssey 379, drew particular attention, along with the Sun Odyssey 44 Deck Salon, a new model for Jeanneau and Larsen Marine, and the two other new Jeanneaus on display:  The Sun Odyssey 409, nominated in 2011 for the European Yacht of the Year, and the Sun Odyssey 45 Deck Salon with the 360 Docking System.

Increased attendance, enthusiasm for the coming season, new models from Jeanneau, and the introduction of Larsen Marine’s new “All Inclusive” boat ownership program kept our new Jeanneaus occupied at capacity throughout the show.

Jeanneau's new Sun Odyssey 379 named Cruising World Boat of the Year. In addition to Boat of the Year, the 379 was also named "Best Midsize Cruiser, 36-40 feet." "The Sun Odyssey 379 was the whole package, a boat that sails exceedingly well with a smart, functional layout...The judging panel was particularly impressed with the boat's dual helms and outstanding maneuverability under sail and power."

Production of Larsen Marine's first 379 is nearing completion and expected to arrive in our showroom mid-January.

Larsen Marine pulls historic F4U-1 Corsair fighter out of Lake Michigan

November 8, 2010

corsair_f4u1_smallLarsen Marine and A&T Recovery this morning raised a historic Navy Corsair fighter out of the chilly Lake Michigan waters after 67 years at the bottom of Lake Michigan.

The F4U-1 Corsair Fighter emerged rusted, its underbelly coated with zebra mussels, but otherwise remarkably intact after sitting beneath 250 feet of water nearly 33 miles off the Waukegan shoreline for decades.

“This is the only Corsair left in the world”, noted Taras Lyssenko of A&T Recovery. “It is in amazing condition”. The cool Lake Michigan waters have preserved the aircraft recovered remarkably well. That, combined with the fresh water has made for very successful salvage operations. Larsen Marine has raised four WWII vintage aircraft out of Lake Michigan over the past two years.

“We are excited about the opportunity to play a part in the salvage of these historic aircraft”, said Doug Larsen, Operations Manager of Larsen Marine which is located in Waukegan, Illinois. “I’ve been amazed at the condition these planes are in when they come out of the water, given the length of time they’ve been out there”.

The Corsair is headed to Pensacola, Florida for restoration, after which it will be placed in an exhibit at the Naval Aviation Museum. A private citizen donated money to fund the recovery of the aircraft.
